Pig Wall Plaque

After I made the owl plaque, the same customer then requested a pig wall plaque to give as a present. Again, a commission from 2014- hand carved from a piece of reclaimed slate (© Hatch, Burn, Carve/Martin Wilson).

If you would like me to design and carve an animal for you (or you can supply your own design), then please use the contact form, or email

For Those About to Caboc, Brie Salute You- An AC/DC Cheeseboard.

An AC/DC cheeseboard I made as a request for an engagement present in 2014.

If you would like a metal/rock/band cheeseboard or plaque, just message me here or email

The Long Man

After carving the Uffington horse for a stable sign, I wanted to do more in the way of chalk hill figures.

In 2014, I was given this very large (and heavy) Cornish roof slate (60 x 40 cm), so it was the ideal media to carve a representation of the Long Man of Wilmington.

I still have this piece if you are interested- please use the contact form or  email

Here’s the slate after carving and the beginning of enamelling the piece by hand;

Feet done;

Hours of careful enamelling, and the Long Man is finished;

Mani Stone

One of the first Mani stones that I carved (back in 2014).

This was relief carved into a natural piece of Cornish slate using a Dremel 3000 and silicon carbide burrs (my technique for carving these has changed and developed over the years and I now use traditional hammer and chisel for the majority of the carving).
